Common Heavy Haul Questions
Expert answers to your specialized transport questions.
Heavy haul trucking is a specialized transportation service for oversized and overweight cargo that exceeds standard legal limits. This includes loads over 8.5 feet wide, 13.5 feet tall, 48-53 feet long, or weighing more than 80,000 pounds. Heavy haul requires specialized trailers like lowboys, RGNs, and multi-axle configurations, along with permits and often pilot car escorts.
Heavy haul trucking costs vary based on load dimensions, weight, distance, route complexity, and permit requirements. Typical rates range from $3-$15 per mile for standard heavy haul, with superloads potentially costing more. Factors like pilot car escorts, special permits, bridge analyses, and utility relocations can add to the total cost. Contact us for a free, detailed quote specific to your shipment.
Oversize loads require state-specific permits for each state the load travels through. Single-trip permits are common for one-time moves, while annual permits work for frequent shipments. Superloads (extremely heavy or wide) may require bridge analyses, route surveys, and utility coordination. Our team handles all permit procurement and route planning as part of our service.
Pilot car requirements vary by state but generally apply when loads exceed certain dimensions. Most states require escort vehicles for loads over 12-14 feet wide, 14.5-15 feet tall, or 100-120 feet long. Some states require both front and rear escorts for extremely wide loads. Our team coordinates all pilot car services and ensures compliance with each state's regulations.
We recommend booking heavy haul transport 1-2 weeks in advance for standard loads to allow time for permit procurement. Superloads may require 2-4 weeks due to additional planning requirements like bridge analyses and utility coordination. However, we also handle urgent shipments and can often arrange expedited permits for time-critical moves.
We transport all types of heavy and oversized equipment including construction machinery (excavators, cranes, bulldozers), industrial equipment (transformers, generators, turbines), agricultural equipment (combines, tractors), mining equipment, oil & gas components, wind energy parts, modular buildings, and military/defense equipment. Our diverse fleet can handle loads up to 500,000+ pounds.
